Submit your social media!

If your organization would like to be included in the Social Den, we have some quick tips for you!  Most of these tips relate to Facebook, but you can carry the basic knowledge over to other social networks as well. Once you’ve read through and social media channel links are submitted, we will review them, and once they’re approved we will add you to the official Social Den list!

Make sure that the name of your page has the proper reference to the university.

You can place the university name first or your department or organization name. The marriage of the two is the important part. Examples: Texas A&M University-Commerce Department of Music or A&M-Commerce Alumni Association.

Facebook has a feature that allows you to create quick vanity URLs for your page. This is a case where you will also want to marry your area and the university again. Examples: facebook.com/TAMUCMusic or facebook.com/TAMUCAlumni. While TAMUC is fine in social media identities, please don’t use it on printed pieces or marketing materials.

Your thumbnail (avatar) and cover photo are both relevant and appropriate.

  • Thumbnail: You don’t have to have the university logo here. The logo is an easy and quick way to get a branded image in that spot, but you will relate more and attain credibility as a page if you connect with your audience by using a sincere and relevant image.
  • Cover Photo: Most photos are square and blocky, so instead of stressing you out to crop them, Facebook offers an easy way for you to upload a large image and adjust the position within the cover photo space. Very simple.

And, the third part that enhances your credibility – CONSISTENT CONTENT.

To put it simply, there are three general categories:

  • Original Content: This is content you create and own. For example, a post about your event or news announcement.
  • Shared Content: This is where you share, Tweet, or repost content from other pages or accounts. You must credit your source. This is valuable when sharing industry content.
  • Genuine Content: These are messages of encouragement, anticipation, and achievement. For example: “Welcome back, students!”
