May 13-17, 2013 – Engineering & Technology TAMU-Commerce Pre-service STEM Teacher Workshop

  • Engineering & Technology TAMU-Commerce Pre-service STEM Teacher Workshop is a 2013 Metroplex Technology Business Council Tech Titans of the Future University Finalist. The Department of Engineering & Technology hosted a one-week workshop, May 13th – 17th, for pre-service teachers who were teaching in STEM fields.  The goal of the workshop was to introduce the field of engineering, with an overview of its various disciplines and the engineering design process and differences between it and scientific inquiry method.  The workshop included hands-on projects and experiences that demonstrated practical applications of concepts learned and to be taught.  In addition, participants had the opportunity to tour and engage engineers at a local engineering company.  To top it off, participants received a $250 stipend for their time and effort.
  • TAMU-Commerce Pre-service STEM Teacher Workshop (aka pre-engineering camp), a part of the TAMU System Engineering Network
    • The goal was to recruit, train, and retain more highly qualified STEM teachers who know and use engineering applications with their students. The workshop included hands-on projects and experiences that demonstrated practical applications of concepts learned and to be taught. In addition, participants had the opportunity to tour and engage engineers at a local engineering company.  To top it off, we provided a $250 stipend for their time and effort.
